A simple 30-day local SEO plan. Search engine optimisation means helping people and search engines understand your website. A pile of reports is not the same as progress.
FOR SERVICE BUSINESS OWNERS
Choose one important service page. Read its title and first screen. Do they clearly explain the service, the customer and the area you genuinely cover?

THE PRACTICAL STEPS
Use this on your own business. Start with the part that is getting in the way of a good customer enquiry.
Choose a service you want to sell and an area you actually cover. For example: "commercial cleaning in Coventry". Use your own customer language, not a list of keywords nobody says.
In Google Search Console, use URL Inspection for that page. Check indexing, the chosen page version and any reported problem. A request to index does not guarantee indexing or a ranking.
Record the page, date, search clicks, search impressions and real enquiries. Impressions mean appearances in search, not people who read the page. Use the same time window when comparing later.
Write a clear title and main heading. Explain the service, who it suits, the work involved, price factors, timing and next step. Answer questions customers really ask. Add real proof with permission. There is no magic word count.
Show where you actually work. Use a local project or useful service detail if you have one. Do not create dozens of near-identical town pages or invent offices. A useful regional page beats a pile of empty place names.
Link to the service page from relevant pages and articles. Use clear link text, such as "commercial cleaning services". Check the page on a phone. Fix broken links and test the enquiry form.
If eligible, check your Google Business Profile. Ask real customers for honest reviews without incentives. Keep business details accurate on relevant listings. Avoid buying links or mass-submitting to junk directories.
Compare Search Console clicks and queries, then review suitable enquiries. Note seasonality, ad changes and small sample sizes. Thirty days is a work plan, not a promise of results. Search changes can take longer.
Record the page, the problem, what you changed and the date. "Optimisation completed" is not a useful explanation. Ask to see the actual work.
Write down the problem, the change needed, who will do it and when. Then test the customer journey again. A checklist only helps when something gets fixed.
